Chapter 1 About Vending

Types of vending businesses

The Vending business itself is a very broad range of businesses such as vending of Soda, Snack, Coffee, Gumball, Candy, Personal Care Items, Tickets, Phone Cards, etc. Some recent types of vending involve high-tech concepts such as Internet Access and Wi-Fi (Wireless Internet Access) Vending.

Vending industry and industry statistics

Vending was known as early as about 200 B.C. In Egypt , in Alex andria places of worship there were devices dispensing holy water after a coin was deposited. In the end of 19th Century penny gum dispending machines were installed on New York ’s train stations. Thus vending was started in the USA . Today, vending machines are operated by many thousands of companies nationwide and worldwide. These machines range from relatively simple to highly sophisticated, and offer an enormously diverse array of products. - According to National Automatic Merchandising Association http://www.vending.org

There are about 5 million vending machines at 1.3 million locations in the USA with sales 15 Billion in 2003. About 80 million

Is it a “Get-Rich-Quick” business”?

Many of Vending Opportunity sellers or some vending equipment sellers present vending business as very simple highly profitable business. The proposed plan is: you buy equipment from us, find locations or locators find them for you, place the equipment, fill it with inventory and you are starting making a lot of money. The reality is that in many cases you would be sold expensive (or extremely overpriced) equipment, you’d get poor locations or no locations, and the sales figures might be a way too far from the projected, and you do not see in the near future when you will be able to cover your expenses and start making profit.

In case you buy equipment with reasonable prices, carefully choose locations, and then you may be able to generate enough sales and profit in order to return your investment in a year. After that you may expect to generate a good income, which may help you to “get richer” in the long term, but definitely not right away. I believe in general it is extremely hard to get really “rich” (lets say to make 100+, 200, 500K a year) from vending business. Probably few people can do that, but most people should be able to have a good income just by operating their business in a right way. From my experience in Candy Vending it is very possible to make about $40-$80 an hour, which is close to the limit you can make. There are some limitations (I’ll talk about them later) that will not let you increase your income significantly. Vending could be a good source of supplemental income when you do it part time. It is also a good way to try yourself in a business.

Bulk candy vending business can either be a profitable opportunity or a waste of time and money.
